Brittany shared this piece on the evolution of the Starbucks logo. Interesting. I do recall reading that the figure is not technically a mermaid, and this is reflected in the brief column (from Starbucks). Interesting to see how Starbucks describes the logo and its meaning. By comparison, there's this piece, from a software development who generates this independent publication, which is devoted to a variety of issues, from architecture to subway lines to food. Here, the author, Michael Krakovskiy explores a bit more fully, and he problematizes some of the visual readings that may interfere with the Starbucks' version (which is all about magic and not at all "naughty").
